Calling all heros.

Whether saving homes, saving lives, or making sure the town Christmas tree lights are safely hung, our volunteers have a big impact on their world.

CWWFD2 is looking for motivated men and women, 18 years old or older, who want to serve their community and have the time and ability to attend regular training sessions and respond to emergency calls. The department recognizes and respects that volunteers typically have jobs and family commitments and understand the limitations inherent to these obligations.

 What Will I Do?

Columbia Walla Walla Fire District 2 is currently an all-volunteer department. Serving portions of both Columbia and Walla Walla Counties with its main station located in downtown Waitsburg, WA. As a volunteer department we rely heavily upon the talents of dedicated individuals willing to donate time to their community. Becoming a volunteer firefighter can be an exciting and rewarding experience. No former training is required, and all equipment and training will be provided free of charge. All it takes from you is a commitment to serve and the willingness to learn. One of the biggest commitments that volunteers need to be able to make is to attend a minimum of 2  training sessions per month and obtain, on an agreed upon schedule, needed certifications.

Benefits

Stipends are $20 per call regardless of length. Members also receive the same stipend for attending scheduled training or work sessions (maintenance, station cleaning, etc).

Department covers costs of all uniforms and required safety gear.

Overview, Experience, and Training

Firefighters provide emergency assistance and protective services to citizens. They are trained and equipped to protect life and property threatened by disaster, fire, explosion, hazardous materials, illness, accidents and other hazards. Activities include emergency prevention, emergency and non-emergency response, training and drill and maintenance of apparatus, equipment, fire station and grounds. They perform a wide range of emergency work under adverse environmental and strenuous physical conditions. There is frequent potential for exposure to toxic chemicals, extreme heat, and infectious disease which requires the use of protective equipment such as heat resistant clothing, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and medical masks, gloves and gowns.

Firefighters may be required to drive fire apparatus or medical units and perform special firefighting, pre-hospital medical care, rescue work or other skills acquired by work experience and specialized training programs.
