Job Description Review
We value the community we serve, and we care about your input.
Our local Fire Department is underfunded. - In 2023, the pro-committee for the Levy Lid Lift did their darndest to get the levy information out there for the information to be available to the public to demonstrate the need for passing the Levy Lid Lift. Much to the department’s gratitude the community voted in August 2023 to pass the Levy Lid Lift. This gives the department a larger amount of money to work with. Of which the first strategy is to hire a Full-time Chief. There are other contingency plans that are well thought out, but the best first step forward for the department’s success and sustainability is to have Full-time staffing and leadership for the department. The funds should be sufficient to hire the right person.
As stated in the August 2023 Article in the Waitsburg Times:
”In the near term, we will focus on upgrading our equipment in a fiscally responsible manner as well as building out our part-time/on-call interim solution to get more coverage mid-week.
As we move forward, the district will seek a dedicated full-time professional firefighter who will serve as our chief and create continuity for the station. This strategic move will enable us to provide an even higher level of service and care to all our residents.”
A steering committee for hiring the Fill-Time Chief was assembled by Assistant Chief Matt Spring in late ‘23, and we have convened to develop a job description that has received approval from the Hiring Committee, the current Volunteer Fire Chief, and the plus or minus 25 District Volunteers who signed off on it.
We now want to open it to the community for feedback and input. The deadline for feedback/consideration is currently marked for the end of April 2024.
